Frequently Asked Questions

Does the session run for the entire 60 minutes?
Our sessions are structured in 60-minute increments to maximize engagement. We prioritize the immersive experience of participants and are committed to allowing ample time for engagement, even if it means extending beyond the scheduled session.
Can anyone participate?
Our programs are designed to be inclusive and engaging for a broad range of participants, offering a fun, immersive, and imaginative experience, including for individuals in independent living, supportive living, or memory care facilities. We welcome all levels of communication and cognitive abilities, striving to ensure that everyone, whether they express intricate thoughts or communicate non-verbally, leaves with a smile and a sense of accomplishment. However, the program may be most suitable for those who can engage with basic stimuli, respond to simple instructions, and make eye contact. For individuals in the advanced stages of cognitive decline where such interactions may be challenging, the program might not be ideal. We encourage facilities to consider each participant’s abilities to ensure a positive and enriching group experience for all.
How does this program adapt to different cognitive abilities?
Creative Connected Storytelling is a program specifically designed with individuals with dementia and other cognitive impairments in mind, yet it is an enriching experience that can be enjoyed by a wide range of participants. Expected outcomes will vary according to each participant's cognitive function. In a memory care setting, we aim to facilitate imaginative engagement, allowing participants to explore their creativity without concern for giving "wrong" answers, and to respond emotionally to the evolving narrative. We do not focus on what is "correct", rather we encourage everyone to contribute something to the story.

In settings where cognitive decline is less pronounced, such as Supportive Living or Independent Living accommodations, we anticipate participants will actively contribute to the storytelling by incorporating personal experiences, adding details, and relating to the narrative in a meaningful way. We encourage the participants to create a story that makes sense, uses the prompts in creative ways, and even engage in "acting" the story at times.
Our programs are designed to foster inclusion, enhance community cohesion among participants through shared experiences, and stimulate creative thinking. By encouraging imaginative play, we aim to help all participants reconnect with their inner child and experience the joy of creative expression.
Can staff participate?
Staff may be required to be present during the program to provide supervision and support, but their role is strictly observational. InnovAgeless mandates that at least one staff member be present for the entire duration of program to address any potential challenges or emergencies.
While staff are encouraged to observe and support participants, they must refrain from interjecting their own ideas or answering on behalf of participants during the storytelling process. This approach ensures that all participants have the opportunity to contribute authentically and at their own pace.
The Storytelling Facilitator is trained in various techniques to engage everyone and facilitate meaningful contributions. Staff are welcome to support as needed but must respect and allow the storytelling process to unfold naturally. Silence, when needed, is often beneficial and can lead to valuable moments of engagement for those who require additional time to communicate.
How can we prepare for the Storytelling Session?
InnovAgeless requests that you provide a space large enough to accommodate all participants with an unobstructed view of the Storyboard that we will bring. The visual element of the program is crucial for engaging participants. Additionally, we ask that the space be free from unnecessary distractions to minimize interference with engagement. Ideally, a quiet area such as a library, designated quiet room, or an activity area reserved for the program's duration would be most suitable.
While we are flexible and happy to adapt to the space available, we kindly ask that any avoidable distractions be minimized. Please ensure that participants are seated and prepared when the facilitator arrives, as the session will proceed promptly and we want to maximize the time spent on the program. Our setup is minimal, allowing us to begin the storytelling experience immediately upon arrival.
Set the tone ahead of time for this exciting experience! Get your participants talking about their favorite stories or fairytales, or get them in the mindset of storytelling by asking open ended questions such as "what kind of story do you think we will be telling today?"
Is there a minimum or maximum number of participants?
At InnovAgeless, we strive to deliver adaptable, engaging programs tailored to meet the unique needs of your community. Whether you're working with a small group or seeking a more individualized experience, we’re here to help you create meaningful connections through creativity.
To ensure each participant feels seen, heard, and involved, we recommend a group size of no more than 15. This allows for a personal and enriching experience for everyone involved. For those who may benefit from a more focused approach, we also offer 1:1 services to provide customized, one-on-one engagement.
Is this program for kids?
Absolutely! While Creative Connected Storytelling is often used with older adults, it’s just as powerful and impactful for children. Storytelling helps kids develop communication skills, creativity, empathy, and confidence. Through imaginative play, collaborative creation, and active listening, children learn to express themselves, connect with others, and explore the world around them.
Whether in classrooms, camps, or community programs, our adaptable approach engages young minds while building important social and emotional skills—making it a meaningful experience for all ages.
